Christine Markus

Christine received her professional Ballet training under "Les Grands Ballets Canadiens" Pierre Laporte concentrated Ballet Programme in Montreal, from 1977-1982, receiving Cecchetti Training.

After graduating she went on to join the Joffrey II Ballet Company in New York City, New York, in Professional Status. There she danced in many roles, while working with many choreographers, such as Robert Joffrey, Choo San Goh and Agnes de Mille. Christine then joined the Finis Jhung's "Chamber Ballet U.S.A." performing in solo roles in many Classical and neo-Classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Giselle, Nutcracker etc. While with these two companies she toured across Canada and the U.S.A.

Christine trained at the Pilates Studio, West 57th Street, (Drago Studio) in New York City, while in tenure with the Joffrey Ballet, to complement and enhance her rigorous daily schedule, and to prevent injury. It helped her to remain injury free through abdominal control ("centre of the universe") and elongation of the spine. She then continued to train with the Pilates Studio in Europe.

Christine was a performing member of the Basel Ballet and also Zurich Ballet in Switzerland. There she performed the Classics such as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle and Nutcracker, and neo-classical works by Hans Van Manen and Neils Christie. While with the Basel Ballet she also preformed on WDR German Television in the Classical piece "La Fille Mal Garde" in Cologne, Germany.

After 5 years in Switzerland Christine danced in Germany for five years performing for many choreographers. Her performances included solo and demi-solo roles in Balanchine's pieces of "Four Temperaments" "Who Cares" "Allegro Brillante" and "Concerto Barocco" set by Patricia Neary.

She toured across Europe, the Middle East and China along with her husband Tibor Markus.

Christine has studied and completed 9 months in Moira Stott's Teachers Training Program at the Stott Core Conditioning in Toronto, evolved from the teachings of Joseph Pilates. This has enabled Christine to work with dancers, athletes, gymnasts, figure skaters and generally anybody who wants to enhance their posture and muscle tone.

Christine directed THE CLASSICS DANCE STUDIO INC./Ballet Markus from 1996 to 2001 and has been directing Pilates Works ® since June 1998.


Tibor Markus

Tibor received his professional Ballet training under the Ballet Academy of Budapest, Hungary, from 1975-1985 under intensive Vaganova training. His teachers were Jeno Gal who is the Director of the Ballet Academy and Ferenc Havas, Principal Dancer from the National Ballet of Budapest. Upon completion of training he joined the National Ballet of Budapest in Professional Status.

He performed and worked with the National Ballet of Budapest for one year from 1984-1985. Whilst with this Company Tibor danced in Ballets such as "Les Sylphides", "Swan Lake", "Nutcracker" and "Romeo and Juliet". Choreographers such as Laszlo Seregi and Gyula Maranhozo.

He has danced in many dance companies in Europe, including Dutch National Ballet, Munich National Ballet, Bejart Ballet and Basel Ballet in Switzerland.

He has performed in such works as "Giselle", "Nutcracker", "Romeo and Juliet", "Jeu de Cartes", "Coppelia", Firebird", "Violin Concerto" and other neo-classical works such as "Carmina Burana", "Bolero" and "Spartakus". Tibor performed solo and demi-solo roles in these Ballets. He was working along with choreographers such as Maurice Bejart, Rudi Van Danzig, Hans Van Manen, Neils Christie, Caroline Carlson and Yourri Vamos.

Tibor toured across Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Israel and South America.

Tibor performed as a member of the National Ballet of Canada from 1995 to 1998. During this time he studied for 4 months with the National Ballet Teacher Training Program, graduating with Honors in the Cecchetti method Elementary Level in teaching and Highly Commended in the Royal Academy of Dance in December 1998.
He has studied and completed Moira Stott's Teachers Training Program at the Stott Conditioning Training Centre in Toronto, evolved from the teachings of Joseph Pilates. He also directed CLASSICS DANCE STUDIO INC. and Ballet Markus from 1996 to 2001, and is currently an associate director of Pilates Works ®.
